Testimonial from

Fay Page Jewellery

"I loved working with Elliot. He managed to make, what to me seemed a very complicated task, flow pretty effortlessly. I particularly liked how supportive and patient he was as we tried to work out just how to categorize 500 products!

I can’t recommend Elliot enough and the continued digital marketing work he continues to support us with is invaluable.

The new website has been a real success and I’m so pleased with how it allowed our business to prosper throughout lockdown."

Project summary

Bespoke to Shopify

I was introduced to Fay by a customer, Poppy Treffry, for whom I had recently built a Shopify e-commerce website. Fay was looking to upgrade her own website, and this project became a true example of remote collaboration — as I’ve never actually met Fay in person. She lives on the Isles of Scilly, and all of our work together was carried out via telephone and email.

The brief was to upgrade the Fay Page website to Shopify. This task was made more complex by the age of the original site, which was several years old and built on outdated web code. The key challenge was migrating hundreds of products, each with multiple choice options and variable pricing, into a new and modern platform. Additionally, the website contained a large number of blog posts, all of which needed to be successfully transferred to Shopify.

Protecting and building upon the site's existing Google search rankings was a top priority, as replacing an established website always carries some level of risk.

I really enjoyed this project because of the technical challenges involved. The database from Fay’s old website was exported, but the data proved incompatible with the Shopify platform. As a result, it had to be carefully restructured into a usable format — with particular attention paid to preserving the integrity of the existing search engine optimisation setup. The updated data was then successfully imported into the new site and thoroughly tested.

To give you an idea of the scale and complexity of this type of project, I just checked the Fay Page folder on my computer — it contains 38 sub-folders and 497 individual files.

Once the e-commerce functionality had been tested and online payments enabled, we moved on to designing a completely new website for the business. In truth, I couldn’t go wrong — Fay Page jewellery is so beautiful, it speaks for itself.

The website launched successfully in 2019, and since then we’ve continued working together on monthly digital marketing. Working with Fay is a real pleasure — she’s open to new ideas, always positive, and regularly credits Business Think with a large part of her success since launch. But with such a unique brand and exceptional products, the Shopify platform was only ever going to help increase her sales.

Last Christmas, a large and heavy package arrived on my doorstep. Inside were 48 cans of craft beer and a handwritten note that simply said “thank you” — even though the website had been finished months earlier. I’ll never forget that — it was such a thoughtful and generous gesture. Needless to say, Christmas was excellent!

Thank you, Fay, for asking Business Think to work with you on this project. Next year, I’m determined to visit the beautiful Isles of Scilly and say thank you in person.
